This summer, we announced a partnership with Genability, a software company that has the industry's only accurate and comprehensive cloud-based retail tariff database and rate engine. Today, we are happy to announce that the Platform now incorporates Genability's tariff database and rate engine. This means that every time you generate a proposal you can be confident that the energy avoided cost will be accurately represented in your ModSolar proposals (as long as you choose the correct rate for your customer!).
You'll still have the ability to define your own rates (via the "Settings" area), but with the integration of Genability's database, you should rarely -- if ever -- need to do that. Genability's tariff database is very comprehensive, and we made it very easy for you to select the correct tariff for your lead (as described below). What's more, Genability's rate engine is highly accurate, incorporating tiered rates, weekend/holiday rates, etc. This results in much more accurate estimates of your prospect's pre- and post-solar utility costs -- especially in California and similar states with complicated rate structures.
Here's an explanation of how the new functionality is presented within the Platform.
On the page where you add a lead, you can now select the utility rate for the property. After you've entered the state and the zip code, you'll see a new drop-down that lists all of the available rates -- the rates that your Administrator has defined (for the state), as well as the built-in rates from Genability (based on the zip code). The most common rate will be listed first, so in most cases, you won't even need to make a selection; the most common rate will be pre-selected for you.
Notice that the built-in rates (for the zip code and lead type -- residential / commercial / municipal) are listed first, followed by any user-defined rates (that your Administrator may have set up for the state). If you select a user-defined rate, its details will be displayed:
You also have the ability to enter a rate manually (always the last choice in the list):
The same options -- built-in rates, user-defined rates, and manually-entered rates -- are also now available within the form that appears when you click the Change button when reviewing your proposal, allowing you to immediately modify the rate and regenerate the proposal to see the effect of the newly selected rate:
We're sure you're going to love the way that we've integrated Genability's tariff database and rate engine, and we'll continue to enhance the Platform to provide you with more accuracy and more configurability, while maintaining the ease-of-use that is the hallmark of the ModSolar Platform.
