Today we are very pleased to announce the release of a major upgrade to the MODsolar Platform architecture that will significantly enhance your ability to design & quote using the Platform.

Previously, when you were in the proposal generation flow creating a proposal, the Platform was only saving your lead information, and then only saving your proposal information when you went all the way to the "Email" page. IF you didn't get all the way through the process -- for example, if you left the computer to take a phone call, go to lunch, or simply needed additional information to complete the proposal -- you had to start over from the beginning.

Today that is no longer the case. The Platform is now saving every scrap of information (including all of the generated panel layouts) and every change to every page in the proposal generation flow, so that you can go back and edit an incomplete proposal at any time, no matter where you were, what you were working on, or why you stopped. You no longer have to deal with the frustration of having to redo all of your work.

When you're in the proposal generation flow, you won't notice any changes; your work will automatically be saved in the background. However, there are some user interface changes on the lead details pop up (when you click on a lead on the My Leads page) to show you the progress of each proposal through the process. Take a look at the screen capture below:

As you can see here, each proposal now has a rating of completion (in percent complete), and when you mouse-over that rating, you'll see the individual steps that make up the process and whether or not they are complete.

Next, we've also consolidated the actions -- such as Delete and Clone -- that you can apply to each proposal, They now appear in a new drop-down menu to the right of each proposal. This was done to both make things clearer for you, as well as to allow for room for expansion as we add new features to the Platform. Here's what that new drop down menu looks like:

As you can see, we've simply moved links that were next to the proposal into the new drop down.  For those proposals that are 100% complete, you'll see a "Download this Proposal" link. For those that aren't, it will be an "Edit Proposal" link. Once you've completed a proposal, we don't allow you to edit it any more; since you may have sent it to your prospect, we want to maintain it for you as a permanent archive. But as before, you can "Clone" the proposal -- this copies the proposal and lets you make any desired changes.

And here's a video to show this new functionality in action:

So while the user interface isn't changing too much, as you can see this is a significant productivity gain for you.  But more than that, this change will enable you to continue to improve your sales process now that everything is saved while you're generating a proposal. Here are a few ideas for how you might improve your process:

  • If you have a sales appointment set with a prospect - you may already be generating a proposal prior to your visit. Now, consider bringing your laptop, and showing them the layout you did for them "back at the office." Then, whether or not you are measuring a roof, consider editing the proposal with them as an interactive experience. Getting their contributions and incorporating it into the proposal, on the fly, will not only make you look sophisticated, but it will also put you in a consultive role with them, where you're helping them make a decision, not simply trying to sell them something.
  • Truly measuring shading - if you're planning on visiting the property, or having someone on your team do it, now you can truly see where shading causes poor irradiance and go back into your layout, and delete whatever panels just won't work - in order to get the best layout possible.
  • When the customer wants to spend less - before this change, you could go into the change button after cloning a proposal and adjust the size there - but the picture of the panels on the roof wouldn't match the new size. Now you can simply edit or clone the proposal, go back to the panel layout page, and delete whatever panels you need to, to meet your customer's cost requirements.

There truly is a lot that is now possible with this improvement. And I'm sure that as you continue to use the MODsolar Platform, you'll find even more ways to be even more productive. Of course, please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or comments you have.
